1. Define what the window should communicate
First describe the job in plain language.
Is the window being used for:
- campaign/promotional graphics;
- brand presentation;
- decorative graphics;
- privacy/frosted treatment;
- another retail communication purpose?
That objective helps determine what the artwork and physical project need to achieve. It does not automatically determine one universal film specification.
2. Map the actual glazing
Provide photos and approximate dimensions where possible.
Useful inputs include:
- number of panels;
- approximate width/height of each relevant area;
- doors, handles, frames or obstructions that affect placement;
- whether the glazing is viewed mainly from outside, inside or both;
- areas that must remain clear;
- any existing graphics that may need to be considered.
For larger or installation-led work, real site information is more useful than a generic storefront template.
3. Separate the campaign layout from the glass dimensions
A design that looks correct on a screen still needs to work across the real window arrangement.
Before final artwork, decide:
- which panels carry the main message;
- where logos, offers or product visuals sit;
- what areas remain transparent or intentionally clear;
- whether multiple panels need one continuous composition or separate elements;
- whether the campaign has several versions or locations.
DSP can support artwork preparation, revisions or redesigning where required. The final artwork should be aligned to the confirmed physical area before production.
4. Choose the Window route by the actual goal
Retail window projects can involve different sub-tasks.
Printed/decorative storefront graphics
Use the broad Window & Glass owner for branded or decorative graphics applied to glazing.
Frosted / privacy graphics
When privacy or a frosted visual effect is the main task, keep it under the Window & Glass service rather than treating it as generic transparent-label work.
One-Way Vision
When the requirement is specifically One-Way Vision/perforated window graphics, use its dedicated subtype:
One-Way Vision Window Graphics
The exact material/performance of any route must still be verified for the selected product and actual site.
5. Installation and site access are part of the project brief
If DSP installation is required, include what you know about:
- project location;
- accessible working times;
- mall/building/store access conditions supplied by the responsible party;
- whether the site is already operating;
- campaign/opening/changeover date;
- any existing graphics or surface preparation issue known to the buyer.
Do not assume one universal installation duration from the number of panels alone.
7. Floor graphics are a separate surface task
Retail campaigns can combine window graphics with floor graphics, but that does not make them one Search/service owner.
If the project also includes promotional floor graphics, scope that requirement separately under:
Floor Stickers & Floor Graphics: Floor Graphics
The Floor owner handles the floor-specific application. Safety, slip/performance and floor-compatibility requirements remain product/site-specific and should not be inferred from the Window project.
8. Avoid generic film-performance promises
This guide does not promise a universal:
- film brand or thickness;
- service life;
- UV/heat rejection;
- privacy percentage;
- weather performance;
- adhesive/removal behaviour;
- suitability for every glazing type.
If one of those properties matters, state it as a requirement and confirm it against the actual selected specification.
9. Fixed campaign dates should be raised early
If the graphics are tied to an opening, promotion, sale, event or changeover date, include the hard date in the first discussion.
The date is a feasibility input. It does not create a guaranteed Window installation SLA.
Same-day sticker capability applies only when quantity, required quality/specification and production conditions allow and should not be interpreted as a universal retail-window project turnaround.
Prepare the retail-window brief
Send what you know:
- project/store location;
- window/glazing photos;
- panel dimensions or approximate areas;
- campaign/branding/privacy objective;
- artwork status;
- Window route if already known;
- installation requirement;
- site/access/approval requirements supplied by the responsible party;
- target/opening/campaign date;
- any separate Floor-graphics requirement.
