1. Start with the application surface
Describe the surface as accurately as you can.
Useful information can include:
- glass;
- painted or coated surface;
- metal;
- plastic;
- smooth board/panel;
- packaging or container;
- another known substrate;
- an unusual, textured, curved or frequently handled surface.
The same adhesive construction should not be assumed to behave identically across every surface. If adhesion or later removal is important, the actual surface should be part of the specification and, where practical, the test process.
2. Explain where and how it will be used
Instead of asking for a material because it is described as “durable,” describe the exposure that matters.
For example:
- indoor or outdoor use;
- direct sun or shaded placement;
- moisture, condensation or cleaning exposure;
- repeated handling or rubbing;
- temporary campaign use or longer-term application;
- fixed installation or an item that moves/is transported;
- any known heat, cold or other environmental condition that is important to the job.
Those details define what needs to be checked. They do not automatically prove that a generic vinyl stock meets the requirement.
3. Decide whether removal is part of the job
Ask whether the sticker is intended to:
- stay in place for the planned application period;
- be removed after a campaign/event;
- be changed regularly;
- be replaced without damaging an important surface;
- use another clearly defined removal/replacement workflow.
“Removable” should be treated as a real requirement to verify—not as a blanket promise that every sticker will lift cleanly from every surface.
For a deeper planning framework, use the dedicated removable-adhesive guide.

4. Define the visual result separately from performance
Appearance and performance are different decisions.
You may have a visual preference for:
- a matte or glossy appearance;
- a clear/transparent look;
- a solid-colour/printed background;
- a particular cut shape;
- another finish or presentation style.
That preference does not by itself establish adhesive behavior, outdoor suitability, service life or any other performance property.
If the requirement is specifically transparent/clear stickers, use the dedicated Transparent/Clear route rather than treating clear material as just a paragraph inside generic Vinyl.

5. If the job is outdoors, describe the exposure instead of asking for “the best outdoor vinyl”
Outdoor applications vary widely. A sticker on a sheltered panel and one exposed to strong sun, repeated cleaning or other demanding conditions are not the same specification problem.
For outdoor planning, state:
- the exact surface;
- where it will be installed;
- the relevant exposure;
- how the item will be handled/cleaned;
- the useful period you expect;
- whether replacement is acceptable;
- any critical appearance requirement.
Then the actual material/adhesive/finish construction can be assessed against the requirement.

6. Treat samples and testing as decision tools
Where adhesion, removability, appearance or exposure performance is important, a real sample/test on the intended or representative surface can reduce avoidable assumptions.
A useful test should be interpreted within its limits. A short sample check does not automatically prove long-term performance under every future condition, but it can reveal obvious fit, appearance, application or removal issues before a larger job proceeds.
7. What to send when asking for specification help
Send what you know:
- application/use;
- surface/substrate;
- indoor/outdoor location;
- relevant exposure/handling conditions;
- desired permanence/removal behavior;
- size;
- quantity;
- artwork status;
- visual/finish preference if known;
- target date;
- UAE delivery/project location;
- photos of the surface/application where useful.
If the exact material is unknown, say not sure — please advise from the application.
